There is no “set way”, “right way” or “off-the-shelf way” of creating organizational change - which in itself is a means to an end.  The end or goal, is to continuously create value - for the customer, the employees and the shareholders of a business.  The “way” to achieve such a goal is founded in the constant pursuit of learning and finding the best possible balance, blend, mix and application of learning processes and tools.  It is an intricate, holistic and endless process.  It requires clear vision, constant surveillance, continual manoeuvring and relentless persistence.

The People Have To Do It !

Regardless of the undertaking - TQM, re-engineering, creating “the virtual corporation” - a company needs a means, a methodology, to make it happen and that means must be executed by all the people in the company - not just management and certainly not by consultants.  The need is for a process that allows the people to do it.  To change the organization so that it can always be a highly competitive, fast-response, high-quality, flexible, agile, profitable and prosperous company.  But, getting there takes far more than just knowing that you have to change.  It becomes a question of how do we the people in the organization make it happen?  Especially, when we have so much to do just running the current business?

The Focus Is On Process

It is acknowledged that companies must focus on process, not functions - whether they are re-engineering, improving quality or reducing cycle time.  However, what most companies do not have is an effective process for implementing and integrating these initiatives.  A process that takes everyone on the company through a step-by-step learning, doing, results-producing experience that becomes the new, self-sustaining way of running the business.

Having A Prescription is Not Enough !

There are plenty of books, seminars and consultants expounding what organizations must do - and in many cases they are right.  The diagnosis and the prescription are right, but few have the means to make it happen from inside the organization.  They may have a prescription (re-engineering, customer focus, team building, TQM, special education and training, etc.) but they do not have the methodology to administer the prescription so that the company can get its people to do whatever it is that has to be done.  From get-started (team building) and single-focus programs (TQM) to corporate-wide undertakings (re-engineering).  But few can give an organization a holistic, self-sustaining process that allows the people to implement all the needed initiatives within a unified, strategically focused process.

Solutions, Ideas, Innovation, Results All Need A Vehicle - The Process

It does not matter what the concept, focus or goal is - TQM, ABC, Lean, CTM, Re-engineering, etc. - every organization still requires a process for achieving results.  A process that is for the people, by the people and from the people (and please don’t send in the consultants).  The people in the organization have to make it happen - the vice-presidents, the front-line workers, the shippers, the managers, the supervisors, the accountants, the secretaries, the sales personnel.

We at CTM have spent the last 16 years developing services that support the above.  Our services focus on helping a client understand how they are performing now compared to what level we believe they are capable performing at.  This service is called our Business Assessment.

As mentioned above, we believe major results will not be accomplished unless there is an implementation structure which is not only a framework to guide people, but also allows for company flexibility.  This is what we call our 12 Step Process.

The last important service is a full area of Educational Workshops and Training Exercises that individuals need to experience while implementing new improvement initiatives.  All of our material has been developed while working with clients throughout North America.
